May/June 2004 - Announcements
|
|
2004 Dues
All AMAA dues were due Jan. 1, 2004, to maintain your active membership
status and receive
uninterrupted delivery of the Voice. Adult dues are $50 per year; Junior
dues are $15 per year.
First-Class Mailing
Maine-Anjou Voice is now available first-class. Our October issue was
delivered using this more efficient
method, allowing many of our subscribers in more rural regions of the
country to receive the issue nearly
two weeks sooner then they do through normal delivery. If you would like
the option to receive the Voice
first class every month, simply request a first class subscription the
next time you renew. The first class
subscription rate is $45. Standard subscriptions remain $20. Adult AMAA
members who receive the Voice
with their active membership can also upgrade to a first class rate, by
submitting $70 for their 2004 dues.
Sale Consignors
Please note if you consign to a sale (for example, a state expo sale),
your dues for the current year must be
paid prior to any transfers being processed through the AMAA office. If
you aren't sure if your dues have
been paid, you can call our office at (816) 431-9950 to check.
September 2004 ad deadline: August 1, 2004
This is the end-of-summer issue. It contains wrap-up from our ever-growing
National Junior Show
(Springfield, Ill.). This issue is the time to congratulate Junior
National participants and focus on their
individual commitments to youth, as well as the first opportunity to show
off the 2004 show string. This
issue is handed out at state fairs and is sent to all the new junior
members.
Registration Reminders
Commercial Dams
If you are registering a calf out of a commercial cow, you may now have a
performance number assigned to
that dam. This will allow the dam's performance to be used in evaluations.
You will be sent a sheet on each
cow indicating the number assigned to her and what you have indicated as
her herd prefix. We also need
the cow's birthdate or at least the year she was born if you do not know
her exact birthdate and the breed(s)
that comprise her pedigree. The performance number is to be used on the
application for registration for
future calves you wish to record out of her. If she already has progeny
recorded, you can let our office
know which one(s) they are, and we will add her number to the pedigree of
each of her calves. When you
sell one of these cows, please return the sheet to our office to let us
know what date the cow was purchased
and who bought her. Our files will then be updated, but you will not incur
any cost to have the transfer of
records done.
REMEMBER - the three things we need to assign the performance number for
commercial dams is
1. the breed(s) that comprise her pedigree
2. her herd identification
3. her birthdate or the year she was born
MaineTainers
When registering a calf out of a sire that is registered at the 1/4- or
3/8-blood level, please remember that
the dam MUST be at least a registered 1/4-blood before a calf meets the
registration requirements. Calves
that are out of a sire that is only a 1/4- or 3/8-blood and a commercial
dam can not be registered.
Beginning February 1, 2004 all registered MaineTainer females will be
eligible to show regardless of
whether sire is recorded in the AMAA registry. This does not apply to
bulls and steers.
Steers
AMAA Rules and Regulations state steers must be sired by registered
Maine-Anjou bulls. Although "other
breed" bulls can be registered with the association, their progeny do not
qualify for Maine-Anjou shows
requiring papers and the steers are not eligible for registration with the
AMAA.
Online Registrations
After submitting online registrations, please e-mail our office a count of
the registrations submitted. This confirmation aids us if any problems
should arise. Please note our e-mail address is
maine@kc.rr.com
Adding Other Breeds Pedigrees
"Other breed" pedigrees can be added to the registration of an animal for
either the sire or the dam. The fee to add a bull's pedigree as the sire
is $35 and to add a female's pedigree as the dam is $15. Please send along
a copy of the registration paper for each particular animal and include
the proper fee.

REGARDING DNA
Dams: Prior to registering ET calves, all donor dams must be DNA typed and
on file in the AMAA office. Registration papers will NOT be mailed from
our office if the donor does not have DNA on file. This applies to
registered Maine-Anjou donors AND commercial donor dams. If you are unsure
if a dam has been typed, please call our office. You need to allow up to
three weeks for DNA results to be processed from the lab.
Bulls: All bulls that have been collected – for marketing OR for home use
– are also to be DNA-typed and on file in our office. Registrations out of
AI sires that have not been typed will be held.
